Journal of today’s activities:
After a run of nearly 16 miles in beautiful spring weather, I drove to the campus of UC Davis in order to deliver two lectures. I spoke for one class on law and human rights. My discussion for that class centered on two fundamental human rights: the right to communication and the right to associate. Although leaders in the United States like to point their accusatory fingers at other countries that violate human rights, we interfere with the human right of more than 2.3 million people every day when we block them from communicating and we block them from the right to associate. In the second class at UC Davis I taught from my book Inside: Life Behind Bars in America. The day was long, including a lot of driving. I have two more such days ahead.
