Journal of today’s activities:
This morning I made a presentation for a group of more than 50 community leaders in Santa Rosa. The mayor of the city greeted me and the city’s former police chief introduced me to the group. Prosecutors and probation officers and leaders from the school district sat around the table to discuss the importance of building safer communities. The meeting was another mayor’s gang prevention task force and I spoke to present the story of my journey and to share ways that our organization could make a contribution. Following the 90 minute presentation in Santa Rosa, I drove for 2.5 hours to Sacramento to meet with the California Rehabilitation Oversight Board. The Inspector General chaired the meeting that included several academics, practitioners, and law enforcement officers. Again, I shared my story and described the value our program could add to the California Department of Corrections. Following my presentation the Sheriff from San Luis Obispo gave me his card and said we may be able to work together. I interacted with a few others who may have an interest in our work. Each order requires a considerable investment of my time.
