Transformation From Gangs to University
Alton Pitre grew up in a notorious, gang-infested neighborhood of South Central Los Angeles. It’s called “The Jungles.” While growing up, Alton said that he was surrounded by gang members and didn’t know any other way of life. Law enforcement officers took him into custody when he was a young man and charged him with crimes that he did not commit. While in custody for two years, Alton was exposed to leaders like Matthew Mizel of Inside Out Writers. He made a commitment to prepare for success. In today’s Earning Freedom podcast, Alton describes how he rejected the criminal lifestyle to become a full time student and community leader.
