Prison Consultant Shows Pattern of Success
Sunday, April 19 through Saturday, April 25, 2015
Sunday, April 19 (Newsletters / Roadmap)
I was able to get a lot of work written today. i wrote my newsletter, a new version of my Roadmap to success, and then I completed two lessons for the MasterMind program that I’m creating. The MasterMind program will share lessons that I learned from the MasterMinds that taught me so much. I’ll write about those leaders because I am convinced that all of us can learn from people who encountered struggle and responded to that struggle in ways that led to successful outcomes.
Monday, April 20 (Podcasts)
I’ve got an extremely busy schedule for the remainder of this month. I’ll be traveling to New York, then Washington DC, then Minnesota. While I’m away I won’t have as much time to devote to the podcasts. In anticipation of the busy schedule, I’ve done a lot of pre recording so that I’ll still be able to release a podcast each day. I’m looking forward to the conclusion of this trip, as I want to place my focus back on building my products.
Tuesday, April 21 (Travel day)
I had a long day of travel, but it wasn’t lost. Carole dropped me off at the airport early so I could board a flight at 6:30 am. I flew from Orange County to Chicago. Then I changed planes in Chicago and flew to Albany. In Albany I changed planes again for a flight to Ogdensburg. In Ogdensburg I rented a car and drove to Potsdam. By the time I arrived at the hotel I was exhausted, but I had some work to complete before I could rest. This trip will keep me away from home for the next 12 days.
Wednesday, April 22 (Potsdam)
Today began my busiest day of the New York State University leg of my extended trip. I arrived at the university at 9:00 am and I began speaking at 9:30. I spoke to a group of about 100 people in a cozy university auditorium. The members of the audience came from the local law enforcement community. I shared my story of the 26 year journey, helping them to understand the strategies that empowered me and also described the work that I’m doing to improve outcomes of our nation’s criminal justice system.
Thursday, April 23 (Potsdam)
I had another busy day of speaking at the State University of New York in Potsdam. First I spoke to a large classroom in the criminal justice department. While there, I met a young woman who had been incarcerated in a female prison. I had an opportunity to interview her for the Earning Freedom podcast. Her story will move listeners, and she describes the pain of a mother being separated from her children by imprisonment.
Friday, April 24 (Flight)
I spent the morning in my hotel room in New York writing. Then I made the long drive back to the Ogdensburg airport for a commuter flight to Albany. I boarded a larger plane and Albany and flew to Washington DC for the first time. This is a busy part of my trip. While in Washington I have three meetings with Congressional staffers and several meetings lined up with people who’ve been supportive of me for many years. I won’t have any time to enjoy the city, but I’ll certainly be in the heart of it so I anticipate snapping many photographs to preserve the memories of my first trip to our nation’s capital.
Saturday, April 25 (Sam)
Today I helped a friend move. Moving is rarely fun, but it pleased me to spend time with close friends. Following the move, I caught up on work and then went to enjoy a fabulous dinner with close friends and new friends. We went to an extraordinary home in Potomac, Maryland. Several of the attorneys with whom I met held high positions with the Department of Justice. I had a lengthy conversation with one man who once worked for the Pardon Attorney and he was familiar with my case. He’ll appear on my podcast soon. Meeting with these government leaders really inspired me and I’ll look forward to developing new relationships with them in the months to come.
