Today I ran my first marathon of 2014 with my friend Seth Nobmann. Although running marathon distances have been a big part of my life for the past couple of years, I did not include running marathon distances in my goals for this year. This was to be a year of transition for me, a year of gaining more traction in my building my career. As such, I set a more modest goal of running 2,400 miles over the course of the calendar year. I am ahead of schedule. Yet next week, my wife and I will begin an extended trip to Southern California. I’ll begin working to build and train a sales force. That responsibility meant that Carole and I would be away from Northern California for a while. When Seth suggested that we run a marathon together before I left, I agreed. I enjoyed the experience very much. In the early evening, I gave the keynote speech to a commencement ceremony for graduates of San Francisco State University’s class of 2014.
