Today I woke at 3:00 am. Excitement at the opportunities ahead coursed through my veins. Rather than trying to sleep, I picked up my laptop computer and began drafting an advertisement to post online. I found several services that advertise jobs for sales professionals. I’m recruiting for a specific candidate profile, one that I would classify as an “A-player,” to build our team. With that candidate in mind, I’ve designed a pre-application process that allows me to measure whether applicants have the characteristics that I deem essential for all members of our team. Candidate responses in the pre-application process will determine whether they advance to the hiring process. Those who advance will receive an invitation to submit a more comprehensive application. The responses to that application will determine whether the candidate receives an interview. I do not want to work harder than the candidate is willing to work to determine whether he or she is a good fit for our organization. We’re not a fit for everybody. As I wrote above, I’m looking for A-players only. Those who pass will receive an offer letter from me, and then we will commence the intensive training program. It’s a very exciting project.
