I’m really grateful for the privilege of beginning each morning by running on the beach. While I was incarcerated, I boosted my sense of efficacy by waking very early and beginning my day when most every else slept. I had my best time in Atwater, at the end of my sentence, because I could start my exercise by 4:00 am. After a long run and some strength training, I spent the rest of my day working on my writing projects. Those activities prepared me well for my return to society. I’m following the same pattern now. Yet Orange County offers much nicer surroundings than anywhere I’ve been before. This blessing of being able to run in the morning, and spend the next 12 hours writing and teaching invigorates me. I’m thankful.
