This role I have of building a sales force gives me a lot of insight into the motivations of other people. I wrote an advertisement and published it on the professional jobs board known as Ziprecruiter. When people respond to the ad, I send out more information along with a document that I call a pre-application. The pre-application provides applicants with some insight into the culture we’re striving to build. It’s a high-energy culture that favors those who are disciplined, self-motivated, and obsessively driven to succeed. Applicants respond to eight questions if they want to move forward with the hiring process. After I evaluate those responses, I determine whether I want to know more. The process allows me to filter those who may not be a good fit for the culture we’re striving to build. Those who seem like a good fit receive an application with more than 30 additional questions. Responses to those questions help me determine whether I want to advance through the interview process. Since hiring the first group, I’ve learned a lot. Now I’m sifting through applications with the intention of playing a role in hiring 10 more people before the end of July.
