I had an interesting meeting today with Alan, a young man who aspires to build a national business focused on the credit industry. Since credit governs so many people’s lives, Alan has a vision of helping them improve credit scores. A massive market exists around credit for obvious reasons. Everyone in America uses credit, or wants to use credit in some form. The credit score has become a barometer on whether an individual is trustworthy. Those who have past blemishes on their record are precluded in participating in the economy. Bad credit influences an individual’s insurance prices, mortgage payments, rental payments, and so many other areas. Obviously, some people are worthy of bad credit scores because they fail to pay bills as agreed. Alan’s company wants to improve credit scores for those who have been unfairly marked as bad-credit risks. I appreciated an opportunity to listen and learn. I’m working with Alan to determine whether I can play a role in adding value to his business. Certainly, the formerly incarcerated have credit needs, and there may be a fit for us to work together.
