The U.S. sentencing commission realized that too many people serve sentences that are far too long. Government representatives have moved to lower prison terms by an average of two years for nonviolent drug offenders. During the 26 years that I served for a nonviolent drug offense, I expected the government to reform those Draconian laws. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t expect those changes to come until after my prison term expanded. Still, it’s great for me to read that the government expects 46,000 people to benefit from those changes. I know that the people in prison, and their family members, are rejoicing with this news. I’m happy for all of those people in prison and for their family members.
