I’m on board an Alaska Airlines flight as I type this entry, flying to the Sea-Tac airport. Tomorrow I’m scheduled to lead a training seminar at a Washington State Prison. I’ll be teaching strategies that empowered me through the 9,500 days that I served. It’s important for me to share the lessons that I learned with other people who are incarcerated. They need hope. Since I was a prisoner for longer than 26 years of my life, which is still longer than half of the time that I’ve lived, I have a depth and breadth of experience. Those who choose to listen to the lessons I’ll share may find inspiration in the message. To the extent that they adhere to the strategy, they too will return to society strong, with their dignity in tact and opportunities to succeed.
