Carole, my wife, received an offer to join the nursing staff at one of the few Magnet Hospitals of Southern California. Ever since she became a nurse, she has wanted to build her career in a Magnet Hospital. Only 401 hospitals in the world have achieved Magnet status, which is a “nurse-driven achievement,” so I’m immensely proud of her for reaching her career aspiration. Some examples of Magnet Hospitals include Stanford Hospital, UCLA Medical Center, and Cedars Sinai. All hospitals aspire to achieve Magnet status, which really means best-in-class status. Hospitals become best-in-class by hiring top-caliber medical professionals. Carole has always been at the top of her class, and she graduates with her master’s degree in nursing in only two more semesters. The hospital she has agreed to join will be a great place for her to build her career as a clinical nurse leader. When people ask me what makes me most proud in my life, without hesitation I say my wife.
