One year ago today, the Bureau of Prisons released me after 26 years of imprisonment. At that moment, a U.S. Probation Officer assumed jurisdiction over me. I was to begin a term of Supervised Release. The term was supposed to last until 2032. Many people have problems on Supervised Release. From the beginning of my term, I sowed seeds that would position me for an easy adjustment back into society. That commitment required me to come with a disciplined, deliberate strategy. It path I chose proved prescient. It enabled me to earn an undergraduate in prison, and then a graduate in prison. Those credentials opened numerous other opportunities. I earned an income, I invested in stocks, I created opportunities to transcend prison walls and connect with society. I met the love of my life while in prison, then created opportunities to support her. Carole is now a nurse, and her stability empowered me to begin building my career upon release. We’re now succeeding at a level that few would’ve thought possible for a man who served 26 years in prison. We continue the path, working together every day to build a better future for our family in sustainable, disciplined, deliberate ways. That is the Straight-A Guide way!
