Although I downplay the relevance of my early termination from Supervised Release, I know how fortunate I am to have received this blessing. The U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Federal Probation Office supported my motion for early termination of Supervised Release. That support is unprecedented in the Northern District of California. It has huge implications for my life. Yet since I don’t drink, I’m stable, and I’m happily married, I didn’t feel too obstructed by the restrictions. Living on Supervised Release was much less intrusive for me than for others because of the preparations that I made during the 26 years that I served. Some people attribute my success to luck. I don’t. It’s never too early or too late to begin preparing for a better life. I live by that motto and I strive to encourage others to embrace that same motto. Now that I’m free, I’ll create more opportunities to spread this message to others. I’m really enthusiastic to work harder than every before, and when Carole graduates next May, I’ll be happy to begin exhaling. Until then, I have too much work to complete.
