A federal probation officer from Orange County called me today. The call came unexpectedly. Although I was in a meeting when the call came in, I stepped away to take the call because I thought the caller might have been a candidate for a job. Instead, the probation officer told me that he wanted to meet me because he had been assigned the task of reviewing my file. Apparently, my probation officer in San Francisco had sent him my information with the intention of changing jurisdiction. Whereas I had thought the federal order from a judge was liberating me, it turns out that more complications that I do not yet fully understand are hanging over my head. I suppose this means that I’m starting all over, with an entirely new probation officer. Since this disappointing news took me by surprise, I asked the probation officer to call me back in 15 minutes. I wasn’t able to concentrate on what he was saying while simultaneously being in the midst of my responsibilities of leading a meeting. I never heard back from him today. I’ll expect to learn more soon. Until then, I must discipline myself to focus on the tasks at hand. See an early entry from my on-going Release from Prison Journal.
