Yesterday I resumed work on the Prison Professor project. My friend Justin Paperny and have partnered on ventures in the past, and he will become my partner with Prison Professor. Today I began writing content that will guide visitors to the site through their first exercise. Basically, I want to engage them into thinking patterns that will prepare them for the journey ahead. Succeeding through prison requires much more than learning about the commissary and how to stand for census counts. Anyone can offer those basics, and many so-called prison consultants pollute the marketplace by offering “advice” of questionable value. Individuals who served only a few months in a single institution portray themselves as experts; others never served a day inside, but retired from jobs as prison workers, nothing more than cogs of the system. Mastering the prison experience, and more importantly, preparing for a successful return to society, requires a different skillset. Through Prison Professor, Justin and will create products and services to serve those who are committed to preparing for success.
