My flight on United Airlines hasn’t gone so well this morning. I boarded the plane at 7:30 this for an 8:00 am departure time. Currently it’s 10:41 and I’m typing this entry while in flight. The plane didn’t leave until after 10:00. At first, the pilot announced that we’d be delayed for 15 to 20 minutes because of a mechanical issue. At 9:00 am he announced the plane was fixed. But then he said that fog had rolled into San Francisco and we’d be delayed for another hour.
I am flying to San Francisco because I have three speeches that I’m scheduled to deliver. At noon I am scheduled to speak at Latham & Watkins. At 4:00 I am scheduled to speak at UC Berkeley. And tomorrow morning, at 8:30, I’m scheduled to speak at San Francisco State University. Unfortunately, my flight out of Orange County didn’t get off the ground until after 10:00 this morning. Now I’m concerned whether I’ll make my noon presentation at Latham & Watkins. Since that presentation could have an enormous influence on the launch of Prison Professor, I’ll be disappointed if the flight gets me into the city too late for the event. Several dozen defense attorneys are scheduled to be in the room. The presentation would give me a magnificent opportunity to introduce the products and services we’re going to offer through Prison Professor.
In any event, we have thousands of criminal defense attorneys in the United States. If my flight doesn’t land in time for me to make today’s meeting with the law firm, I’ll try to reschedule. At least I know that I’ll make it in time for the UC Berkeley event, where I’ll address an audience of more than 500 undergraduate students on the subject of mass incarceration.
