What was the reason they put you in maximum security?
At the time of my offense, in 1987, the prison system operated several different security levels. Administrators would consider a number of factors when determining which security level would be appropriate for an offender. Some of those factors would include criminal history, severity of crime, sentence length, escape attempts, and so forth. The classification system at the time required that individuals who had a sentence that would require 25 years of confinement more to serve time in a high-security penitentiary. My sentence length necessitated that I serve time in a high-security prison, even though I had not been confined previously and even though I did not have a history of weapons or violence.
