Journal of today’s activities:
Today I addressed an audience of more than 1,500 Silicon Valley movers and shakers at the Joint Venture Silicon Valley State of the Valley Conference. I challenged those business and government leaders to think big when contemplating need to transform our nation’s criminal justice system. While at the conference, I spoke with Mayor Chuck Reed, telling him that I was proud to be working with Mario Maciel of the gang taskforce in San Jose. Immediately after my speech, Carole and I rushed home to meet with the film crew from PBS NewsHour. Before getting out of the convention center, several community leaders stopped to talk with me about the work that I’m doing. More opportunities will open from this work our organization does to broaden awareness about the injustices of America’s criminal justice system. Once Carole and I arrived at our home, I sat for an interview with the PBS anchor Jeff Brown. The PBS NewsHour will broadcast that episode later this spring, which will bring our work to the attention of a national audience.
