Today I spoke in an “alternative” school in Santa Ana, California. The young people had been removed from the traditional school system because of some bad decisions they made. I think all of the students were on probation of some sort, and several had already been confined in a juvenile justice facility. The children were between 15 and 17 years old. I spoke with them about the decisions they’re making right now will have an enormous influence on their future. The students have been working through lessons in The Straight-A Guide and several of them asked me about sections that I wrote about in some of my books. Several of them knew a lot about my life, but I think they get more value from the work when I’m able to speak with them in person. I’m hopeful that my two-hour presentation provides them with insight that will lead to their making better decisions in the future and to avoiding more altercations with the criminal justice system.
